A Guy Named Jim

I once knew a guy named Jim. He was a dedicated friend, supportive husband, and an amazing father. His was the standard I now strive for on all three counts. Years ago, he self-diagnosed his mid-life crisis, and he chose to act it out by backpacking throughout the country. He was gracious enough to let me tag along.

And Jim was a newspaper photographer. On a trip to the Western Cascades in Oregon, he suggested I write it up. The newspaper could use a travel writing column. And that was the first time I was published!

The “Joy of Backpacking” in the Terre Haute Tribune-Star. You can read it in full by clicking here.

You never know who or what is going to inspire you or open the door to opportunity. Thanks for giving me a start, Jim. 🙂
