Dia de los Muertos

Buenos Dia de los Muertos! Good Day of the Dead!!

If you don’t know much about this holiday, here’s a terrific video that represents the true spirit of this day!

From sundown October 31st through November 1st is Dia de los Angelitos, Day of the Little Angels, for celebrating the lives of children who have died. From November 1st to the 2nd, Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, for celebrating all souls.

We decorate an altar in our home with gifts and marigolds. It gives us a chance to talk about our first son Nathaniel. And remember stories of other relatives who’ve passed on ahead of us. This is so important when people tend to shy away from the subject of death.

In some communities, from Tucson south through Latin America, an All Souls Procession is held to the final celebration, often in the cemetary. People depicting their loved ones, masks and costumes, or displaying objects in memory walk and dance the way we will all some day go. Why not make a party of it? It’s an opportunity to openly share our love and memories of those we miss.
